Growing Practices
At Working Hands Farm I use only OMRI approved inputs during the entirety of the growing process, from seed, to potting soil, field soil amendments, fertility inputs, and pest control. NO chemical fertilizers, NO chemical herbicides, NO chemical pesticides. Even when things get challenging,
I am 100% committed to a 100% chemical free practice.
**OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) certified products meet the standards of the USDA National Organic Program (NOP).
I view farming as a holistic practice, creating and promoting ecologically complete systems from which nutrient-dense produce is grown. I maintain a primary focus on promoting and increasing soil biodiversity, carbon sequestration, diverse crop rotation, and cultivating pollinator havens.
I am proud of the way I grow food, and I am proud to share that food with my community to increase health, wellness, and food security in Alaska.
Your Farmer
Rebecca Knudsen
Grown from the hot, rocky soils of Arizona, I've steadily stretched my roots north, first to Montana in 2017, and finally to Alaska in 2022.
I was introduced to regenerative vegetable farming in the mountainous western valleys of Montana where I was endlessly inspired by the growing practices, work-ethic, and impact Winter Kissed Farm had on their community. After cutting my teeth as a farmhand in Montana, it was time to pack up the truck and follow ambition north to Alaska. I've spent the past 3 years eagerly apprenticing under arguably one of the most influential farmers in Alaska, Sun Circle Farm. As one of the only USDA certified organic farms in the state, Sun Circle Farm has given me not only the knowledge, tools, and confidence to grow regeneratively in Alaska, but has graciously gifted me land, resources, and guidance to begin my own farm's journey.
I am inspired to bridge the wide gap between summer farmers markets in Alaska by growing and selling hearty, nutrient dense, storage crops throughout the long winter months in the Mat-Su valley (leafy green things included!). When the snow starts flying and the aurora starts dancing, Working Hands Farm will be there with Alaska grown produce to fill your plates.
